It's never easy returning to work after having a baby. But leaving your family's new addition with a caretaker isn't the only challenge you'll face when you return to the office. All of those designer duds you purchased pre-pregnancy may still be two sizes too small, but wearing baggy maternity clothes after you've given birth isn't exactly an option.
Luckily, you don't need to max out your credit cards to look professional when you reenter the workforce. Instead, invest in a few key pieces to revamp your wardrobe at a fraction of the cost. We recently caught up with Hollywood stylist Jeanne Yang—a mom of twins who's worked with fellow mothers Katie Holmes, Evangeline Lily, and Milla Jovovich—and asked her to share the key pieces she thinks every style-savvy mom should own.
1. A blazer
“Invest in a great blazer. Cheap is expensive [because it will wear out more quickly]. A nice blazer can be purchased at Nordstrom Rack on sale. This will wear better than a cheap piece. It can be worn over jeans and even over a dress.”
2. A black dress
“A great black dress makes you feel sexy. It provides a no-stress safety net for last-minute dressy events.”
3. A raincoat or evening jacket
“Get a flattering raincoat or evening jacket. It's the first thing people see on you. And, if it's cold, you may end up wearing it all night!”
4. Nude pumps
“We all need nude pumps. They lengthen the leg.”
5. An evening bag
“Get a great evening bag. You won't buy many of these so get a nice one.”
